Marco Larsen, a thirty-four-year old public-relations man, has for six years been the head of his own small company, Public, nyc, and is now the author of his own small book, "Don't: The Essential Guide to Publicity in New York City and Any Other City That Matters." In it, Larsen issues a series of tart, pointed directives for those who would embark upon his profession, including "Cuff links without a jacket? Mumbai nightclub"; "DON'T rock your drawl"; and, crucially, "DON'T uz f***ing :P ( ; smileys!!! ;D." Larsen's model for tiffany necklaces the self-published volume, he explained, was a nineteenth-century etiquette guide, though it also owes a debt to the model of advice embodied by Carson Kressley, the "Queer Eye" star, who contributed a preface ("You've got the rules of the game in your hand--make them yours").
Kressley was to have been among the guests at a party Larsen threw the other night to celebrate the book, but he turned out to be otherwise engaged. "He's in Sag Harbor, doing a play," Larsen explained, brushing an invisible speck from his pin-striped pant leg and glancing tiffany accessories at an impeccable wing tip. What happened to: DON'T throw a party when your celebrity guest is unavailable? "You have countless events when you hope the celebrity is going to come and they don't come," Larsen said, with resignation.
Who was there instead? There was the author's older brother, Eric Larsen, who recalled that when they were growing up in Denver the young Marco would hold underground boxing tournaments in abandoned warehouses. "I always saw him as an impresario," Eric said. Also, Larsen's hot-yoga teachers, Rachel Page and Carlos Rodriguez, who complimented him on his ability to stay in the room when the temperature rose above 105 degrees. Also, Tyler Wisler, an interior designer who works for Michael Braverman Design, from whom Larsen rents office space in Chelsea. (Braverman was recently obliged to downsize. "One of our biggest clients is going to jail very shortly--Marc Dreier," Wisler explained.) Wisler had a conflict with the party. "It's our 'gotcha day,' " he said--the tiffany rings two-year anniversary of the day on which he and his partner received their foster son, whom they hope to adopt. "But I said I'd be here for Marco." Tags :

The master of ceremonies takes the microphone. A few seconds of static follow and then a clear voice asks the authence to stand for the entrance of the head table. Bagpipes wail. A tartan plaid piper leads the string of dignitaries down the red carpet. Dr. Earhardt watches with detachment. He thinks of how he will leave the dinner as soon as is politely possible this evening. He knows his presence makes tiffany rings on sale the residents uncomfortable, as all staff doctors make young residents. The Lieutenant Governor's aide walks past the table followed by his charge. Marion used to clutch his hand when they stood up for the head table entrance during the multitude of obligatory dinners they had to attend during their marriage. Dr. Earhardt glances down at his left hand. When he looks up he sees Tanya walking with her husband past the table. She is wearing a dove gray silk dress with a yellow silk scarf knotted at her throat. She must have purchased the scarf on the way home from group therapy. Inwardly, Dr. Earhardt smiles, Tanya's acquisition of the yellow scarf is a therapeutic advance, and Dr. Earhardt fills with pride even though he knows he had nothing to do with Tanya's actions. Tanya doesn't see Dr. Earhardt. Tanya's eyes are intent upon her husband and her cheeks are flushed as if she has been out in the cold.
The head table for the Heart and Stroke Foundation Charity Dinner begin to take their seats. Tanya and her husband, the gold donors for this year's event, sit down to the far left of the podium. Tanya lifts her water glass, takes a sip, and then her graceful hand replaces the water goblet on the white tablecloth. She turns to the person beside her and begins to chat, occasionally she moves her hands for emphasis, or turns her head to engage her husband in the conversation. Tanya is the picture of social ease. An ease which surpasses the boundaries of successful psychiatric intervention and this realization jolts tiffany necklaces on sale Dr. Earhardt with hope. Hope for his own life and the lives of his patients. Dr. Earhardt takes his seat.

lot in rent for an apartment with no closets

First, I got over the notion diat I needed tons of clothes and began saving for pieces I really wanted It's hardly the American way, but it's a better choice for your closet and the environment (Did you know the average American throws away 68 pounds of clothing and textiles a year?) Second, I went to indie designers' sample sales- anotiier advantage that New York shoppers have over the rest of the country (for sale news,a website devoted to the indies). You'll find incredible markdowns- maybe even that $300 dress for $80- and you might get to see Maggie Gyllen - haal tryingon a blouse right next to you (true story! We were botii at Steven Alan). Third, I checked out die thrift stores for everydaybasics like cardigans, blazers, and button-down shirts that are much better quality and far cheaper than the chains. And it feels good to know that when I spend money at Housing Works inTribeca ortiie Cancer Care Thrift Shop on die Upper East Side or a Salvation Army in die outer boroughs (where I found my beloved vintage Oscar de la Renta sweater for $10), if s going to a good cause. And when visitors come to town and ask where the Banana Republic is- as buy tiffany necklaces if the one in New York is somehow better- I steer them toward the local shops. A favorite is always Trash and Vaudeville, which has been in the East Village for more tiian 30 years and is a secret of fashion-magazine stylists for its brand of sturdy $50 jeans.
Yes, it takes more thought effort, and patience to shop at the boutiques, sample sales, and thrift stores. But I don't live here because I want it all to come easy. I don't suffer interminable subway delays, push my laundry in a rickety cart to the laundromat, and pay a lot in rent for an apartment with no closets, just so diat, at the end of the day, I can eat at T.G.L Friday's and shop at the mall. I live here because New York gives people me opportunity to become the individuals they've always dreamed of being. And if we want it to stay that way, we have to think about how and where we spend our money. Of cheap tiffany course, as an extra special reward for all of this hard work and careful shopping, you'll never again have to avoid your coworker because she showed up wearing the same clothes as you.
Most of the video/DVD places left in town are chain stores overstocked with Nicolas Cage films and Care Bears adventures, but cheap tiffany accessories Alan's Alley Video remains a sprawling, casual, neighborhood gem of a place with some real finds on the shelves. Filling in where the departed Kim's Video left off, the old standby Alan's has its share of movie-channel-ready women's classics (Back Street, Imitation of Lije), giddy campfests (The Happy Hooker), pitch-dark midnight flicks (Performance, Crimes of Passion), and even some films we've never heard o which is always a good sign. So is the fact that membership is free, and the service is personable An added bonus: Some of the customers are the type that talk to themselves while scouring the shelves On between chatting to their dogs)- a compelling cinematic treat in itself,
